Convert WEBP to JPG on your device
Convert WEBP images to JPG, with transparent areas filled white.
The sample is a 240×120 WEBP drawn in this tab, with a translucent stripe. JPG has no transparency, so that stripe lands on white, and the re-encode is lossy at the quality you set.
Undecodable WEBPs fail, with browser reasons where available, and so do images too large for the browser’s canvas, which are not shrunk to fit. One JPG per file, default 0.92. The dial applies to every file not yet encoded when it moves. Transparency is flattened onto white, an animated WEBP keeps its first frame only and the row says so, and a colour profile, EXIF and XMP are not carried. Takes .webp.
How this converter works
A browser with WEBP support provides the decoder, so no extra decoding library is needed. The File API reads the selected image into memory, the page draws its decoded pixels onto a white-filled canvas, and the canvas is encoded as JPG at the chosen quality and offered as a download link. For an animated WEBP, that is the first frame. All of it happens in the tab.
Use this conversion when an upload form, print service or desktop program asks for JPG. The JPG is made in your browser and the original is not sent to a conversion server, so the site operator receives no image, thumbnail or record of which file you converted. Check the result against the receiving service’s other requirements, such as size or resolution. The methodology page describes the network and offline checks.
JPG encoding can add loss to whatever the WEBP already lost, so keep the original and look over the export. The JPG is 8-bit sRGB and can be substantially larger than the WEBP. When you need transparency, use WEBP to PNG.
